New Release Date for Battlespace Anthology

June 26, 2012, is the new release date for Volume 1 of the Battlespace Anthology. The Science Fiction Show has partnered with experienced e-publisher, Knightwatch Press, to produce the volume. Battlespace Anthology will be available in print and electronic formats. My piece in the anthology will be A Flash of Insight–when starships get better at combat than their pilots, a fighting ace is reduced to a supporting role and wonders where it will all lead. 100% of all proceeds will be donated to the Warrior Cry Music Project–a group of volunteers that work with wounded soldiers, providing musical instruments, lessons, and something positive to work towards. The Project works with therapists in D.C. and gives wounded soldiers something other than than their injuries to occupy their minds.

The Bender Beamer Published May 13

My science-fiction short story, The Bender Beamer, is published as of May 13, 2012, by Lark’s Fiction Magazine, a free online
publication, issue 20, volume 3. The story follows the struggle of Junior Bender, who is perhaps a bit of an antihero, as he tries to fill the shoes of his deceased father as the head of the world’s largest and fastest growing enterprise. Junior finds himself outside of his league. But can he close the gap? And if so, at what cost?

Romance Short Story at Daily Love

Daily Love has now published my romance short story, Time, Heat and a Smoking Ember. It should be on Daily Love’s front page for a week, and then moved to its archive for May 10, 2012. Romance flash fiction is particularly challenging because most romance stories have significant depth of character, two important points of view, and a progressive plot and story arc. Some writer’s manage to capture a lot of that in flash stories, which I admire. My approach in Time, Heat and a Smoking Ember is more like presenting a scene that is important to the romance that also suggests the rest of an intriguing romance story.

The protagonists are Gina and Nathan. They haven’t seen each other since college. I hope you like them and enjoy the story.

Procyon Descent Published May 3

Procyon Descent is published as of today on the front page of Farther Stars Than These.

It is not a lighthearted tale. But readers enjoy it and have described it as moving and thought provoking. Generally, it’s a story of courage and necessity at the end of a long interstellar traverse. Fourteen ships left Earth. Centuries later thirteen ships approach destination, and resources are seriously depleted.

Battlespace Anthology

I just heard from the editors at The Science Fiction Show. They are accepting my short story, A Flash of Insight, for Volume One of the Battlespace Anthology, due out in a little over a month. I like this story and its main character, and the Battlespace Anthology, with its military theme, is a perfect fit.
